Dynamic Motivation

QUALIFICATIONS

Being a great rider and even a great racer does not by default make you a great coach or instructor, it is certainly beneficial but it is also important to learn how to teach and to keep up with current training methodologies.

Our staff have many years of riding and racing in a range of disciplines including XC, 4X, DH, Trials and Enduro. They are always keen however to learn more and continue to develop their teaching.

There are now a few different qualifications available in the industry and we invest heavily in maintaining what we believe to be the highest and most relevant qualifications available. For ease of explanation we break training into 3 broad categories

  • Skills Instruction
  • Coaching
  • Fitness Conditioning

Skills Instruction

We believe in industry consistency as this provides the benefit of being able to get lessons while away from your local area and have them still be relevant. The Ski and Snowboard industry has been doing this for years with great results. It is easy for someone to create their own secret system but its only useful if you simply do lessons with them and its hard  to judge how good it is anyway. If you do lessons under an industry standard methodology, when you are off traveling or riding different locations you can get a lesson or a guide and know it will build on what you have already learnt. PMBI is the largest and most comprehensive standard for MTB instructing world wide so know it is proven and will consistently deliver great results as well as being highly portable. It is also the main commercial standard in Australia with most training organisations adopting it as the standard.

Skills instruction is about teaching people how to ride and this covers everything from beginner basic skills to advanced downhill technique. Dynamic Motivation has 30 Level 1 and 7 Level 2 PMBI Skills Instructors including our director Mic Longhurst who was one of the first Instructor Trainers outside North America and one of only 2 in Australia. This ensures we can provide the highest level of training available.

Coaching

For us Coaching is more about sports science and developing training plans to maximise riding performance from a fitness and nutrition perspective. In Australia the standard for this is the MTBA Level 1 MTB Coach with a few coaches also holding the international UCI Level 2 MTB Coach. The sports science components of these qualifications are great and provide the ability to work with riders to develop seasonal plans, short term training plans, nutrition and race preparation and strategies. While these certifications do have an element of Skills Instruction we find them to be very basic, and as such, we teach to the much higher standard of PMBI. Mic however holds both the MTBA Level 1 and UCI Level 2 qualifications.

Fitness Conditioning

The fitness industry in Australia has its qualifications managed under the the Australian VET training scheme. All our Gym staff hold Cert III, Cert IV in fitness or BSc. and are experienced in running our programs.
